The network has five large lakes, which are linked by canals, and are fed by 38 rivers. Half of the state is made up of backwaters. The Alleppey backwater is also known as the Venice of the East. This beautiful town of the state is globally famous for its awestruck backwaters, boat races, houseboat cruise, exotic beaches, and extra-ordinary scenic beauty.
